Top Sweaters for Transitional Seasons: From Winter to Spring

My favorite aspect of winter—actually the only part I enjoy—is wearing sweaters. I love them all: cashmere, wool, cotton-blend, cable-knit cardigans—you name it. Each type brings its own unique comfort and style, allowing me to express my personality while staying cozy. Sweaters are versatile, warm, and chic at the same time, perfect for layering with button-down shirts and scarves. It’s been a cold winter here in New York, and while the temperatures are starting to moderate a bit, it’s still sweater weather. But, as spring approaches, it’s time for lighter cotton blends that allow for a breath of fresh air and a shift in style. To that end, I went shopping for some new pieces for the seasonal transition to my wardrobe from my favorite designer, Ralph Lauren. These new additions not only brighten up my collection but also inspire me to look forward to the mild days ahead.

I bought this Aran-Knit Wool-Blend Turtleneck Sweater in February, and I’m glad that I did as it sold out quickly. It was my last sweater purchase for winter, and I got a lot of use out of it during the chilly days. Made from a soft blend of wool and cotton, this classic turtleneck from Lauren Ralph Lauren features exquisite Aran and cable-knit stitching patterns that create a cozy texture, perfect for keeping warm. Its versatility is what drew me to it; I’ve dressed it up for work with tailored dress slacks, and also wore it with jeans, for casual outings, like brunch, with friends. The neutral color allows it to seamlessly integrate into my existing wardrobe, pairing beautifully with a variety of different colored slacks.

Flag Cotton Crewneck Sweater

While the Flag Cotton Crewneck Sweater is a bit of a splurge, its exceptional quality and unique design make it worth every penny for discerning fashion enthusiasts. Made in the USA, the sweater embodies Mr. Lauren’s long-standing love of American style. The 100% cotton fabric feels soft against my skin and the intarsia-knit flag motif with 13 embroidered stars, symbolizing the original colonies, adds a touch of Americana to your look. It’s a unique piece that transcends seasonal trends.

Cable-Knit Cotton Crewneck Sweater

I love this color! It’s so springy and bright, evoking the renewal and vibrancy of the season. A Polo essential, this slim-fitting crewneck sweater is made with breathable cotton that offers both comfort and style, making it perfect for layering over a collared shirt on cooler days, or wearing alone when the weather warms up. Best of all, it is made from 100% cotton, ensuring that not only does it look great, but it also feels soft against the skin, allowing for all-day wear without irritation (something I look for because of my sensitive skin). Whether paired with jeans for a casual outing or dressed up with chinos, this sweater wows.

The cable-knit cotton Crewneck Cardigan

I purchased this sweater in Hunter Navy last year and have gotten a lot of use out of it. So, I decided to buy it in white for this season. So, I got it in white for this season. This cable-knit pure cotton crewneck cardigan is perfect for spring or chilly air-conditioned summer days.

Cable-Knit Cotton Quarter-Zip Sweater

Combining the casual styling of a pullover with RL’s iconic cable-knit construction, this quarter-zip sweater is crafted with chunky cotton yarn that provides both comfort and warmth, making it the perfect choice for the still cooler days and nights. Whether paired with jeans for a laid-back look or dressed up with tailored slacks for a more polished outfit, this versatile sweater will undoubtedly become a staple in your wardrobe.
