Transitioning Your Wardrobe: Ralph Lauren Essentials

There’s something irresistible about shopping for fall. After a hot summer spent in cotton and linen, the idea of wrapping oneself up in cashmere and wool sweaters and corduroy slacks is truly enticing.

While it’s not quite sweater weather yet—though it felt like it in NY today—warmer days remain. Not ready to put away summer clothes just yet, I’m focusing instead on transitional pieces to wear through early October. For inspiration, I’ve turned to my favorite designer, Ralph Lauren, who bridges the seasons so well.

Today, motivated by this in-between season, I visited my local Ralph Lauren store to check out the latest for fall (now arriving). It was the perfect day for a fall preview, with temperatures in the sixties and a persistent afternoon drizzle.

Darker Jeans

For me, Ralph Lauren jeans offer the best fit and I have them in an array of shades—light blue, white, cream, and black.

For fall I purchased the Mid-Rise Straight Ankle Jeans (the ankle length saves me from the tailor) in Haze Wash and Petite Mid-Rise Straight Jean in Dark Rinse Wash Denim. (pictured below).

The fit is perfect  and with a bit of “give” both pairs are comfortable as well. …. far from your average denim. They bring an elevated flair while still being casual and comfortable. I love them paired with a blazer, lightweight sweater like this blue and white striped one, and button-down shirts.

Shorts and Cargo Pants

For warmer fall days, Ralph Lauren’s Bi-Stretch Twill Shorts stand out for their comfort and versatility. With a mid-rise, and slim fit, they hit at the knee.

Cargo pants are always in style—comfortable, flattering, and fun to wear. I love their easy vibe and versatility for weekends or travel; just add your favorite tees and sneakers.

Long-Sleeve Tees

This long-sleeve Stretch-Cotton Waffle Henry to immediately caught my eye—it looked like the perfect top for the dreary day. Made from a stretch-cotton waffle fabric, it is finished with fish-eye river-shell buttons, and dyed with true indigo. I thought of how perfectly it would pair with the twill shorts.

The RL tee is a staple for every season. For cooler weather, the long-sleeve Slim Fit Cotton Tee pairs with blazers, sweaters, jeans, shorts—just about anything.
