Celebrating Friendship and Career Journeys: Our StoryCorps Interview

Last month, my best girlfriend and I were interviewed by StoryCorps. The interview was posted today and is also being aired throughout the day on NPR. It was truly enjoyable to share stories, reminisce about our careers, and discuss our friendship with listeners. These moments of reflection not only highlight our personal journeys but also underscore the importance of the connection we’ve built over the years.

During the interview, we delved into the various experiences that have shaped our careers –and our lives. We offered anecdotes that we hope will resonate with others. Each story serves as a reminder of the beauty of shared experiences and the lessons learned along the way. Additionally, the opportunity to discuss our friendship allowed us to express our gratitude for the support we’ve provided each other throughout our careers — especially at a time when a feamle face in funeral service was a rarity.

This photo was taken on a cold January day in 2013 during one of our many walks together in Green-Wood Cemetery. On that day, the air was brisk, and the trees were stark against the winter sky. As we walked, we shared laughs and stories, celebrating not only our past but also the present moments that continue to inspire us. The cemetery, with its rich history and serene atmosphere, provided the perfect backdrop for our deep conversations and reflections on life. It’s a place that symbolizes not only remembrance but also the enduring bond of friendship.
